Training Programme
Biofertilizer Production & Technical Training
WISE Nepal provides hands-on technical training programs to farmers, women’s groups, and rural youth on producing high-quality biofertilizers using locally available organic materials and appropriate machinery. The training combines scientific knowledge with practical field-level applications so that communities can produce sustainable fertilizers locally and reduce dependence on imported chemical fertilizers.
Our training programs focus on teaching participants how to convert agricultural waste such as rice husks, crop residues, livestock manure, and kitchen organic waste into nutrient-rich organic fertilizers, compost, biochar, and liquid biofertilizers using scientifically developed formulations and processing techniques.
What WISE Nepal Teaches
WISE Nepal provides both technical and scientific training, including:
1. Machine-Based Biofertilizer Production
Participants are trained to operate small-scale biofertilizer and compost production machines safely and efficiently, including:
- Compost shredding and mixing machines
- Biochar production units
- Compost turning machines
- Sieving and packaging machines
- Liquid fertilizer fermentation tanks
This allows communities to produce fertilizers at a larger scale and maintain consistent quality.
2. Scientific Fertilizer Formulation
WISE Nepal provides training on how to mix different organic materials using scientifically developed nutrient formulas to produce balanced organic fertilizers.
Training includes:
- Carbon and nitrogen ratio management
- Mixing rice husk biochar, compost, manure, and mineral additives
- Moisture and temperature management during composting
- Nutrient enrichment techniques
- Liquid biofertilizer fermentation methods
- Quality control and nutrient testing
These scientific methods ensure that the fertilizers produced are effective, safe, and beneficial for soil health and crop productivity.
3. Composting & Biochar Production
Participants learn:
- Compost production from crop residues and animal manure
- Biochar production from rice husks and biomass
- Vermicomposting techniques
- Organic waste management and recycling
This helps reduce agricultural waste burning and improves soil organic matter.
4. Soil Health & Fertilizer Management Training
WISE Nepal also trains farmers on:
- Soil health management
- Integrated nutrient management
- Efficient fertilizer use using the Nutrient Expert Tool
- Crop-specific fertilizer recommendations
- Climate-resilient farming practices
Economic & Livelihood Benefits of the Training
The training program not only improves soil health but also creates economic opportunities for rural communities.
Through this training, participants can:
- Start local biofertilizer production businesses
- Reduce fertilizer costs by 20–30%
- Increase crop yields by 10–30%
- Improve household income
- Create local employment opportunities
- Develop women-led agricultural enterprises
This approach helps build a circular rural economy, where agricultural waste is converted into valuable fertilizer products, reducing costs for farmers and generating local income.

Nutrient Expert Tool – Smart Fertilizer Management Training
WISE Nepal provides training to farmers, extension workers, and women’s groups on the use of the Nutrient Expert® Tool, a science-based decision support system that helps farmers determine the right type and amount of fertilizer for their specific crops and soil conditions.
The training program is designed to help farmers move away from guess-based fertilizer use and adopt scientific, site-specific nutrient management practices that improve productivity, reduce fertilizer costs, and protect soil health.
What the Training Covers
Through this training program, WISE Nepal teaches farmers and agricultural technicians:
1. Site-Specific Nutrient Management
Participants learn:
- Why blanket fertilizer recommendations are not effective
- How soil fertility varies from field to field
- How crop nutrient requirements differ by yield target
- How to apply the 4R Nutrient Stewardship principle:
- Right source
- Right rate
- Right time
- Right method
2. How to Use the Nutrient Expert Tool
Participants are trained on:
- Inputting farm and crop information into the Nutrient Expert software
- Understanding fertilizer recommendations generated by the tool
- Calculating fertilizer quantities for nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K)
- Combining organic fertilizers with chemical fertilizers
- Fertilizer application timing and split application methods
This helps farmers apply fertilizers efficiently and scientifically.
3. Integrated Nutrient Management
WISE Nepal trains farmers to combine:
- Organic fertilizers (compost, biochar, manure)
- Biofertilizers
- Chemical fertilizers (as needed)
This integrated approach:
- Reduces fertilizer costs
- Improves soil organic matter
- Increases nutrient use efficiency
- Improves long-term soil fertility
4. Demonstration Plots & Field Training
WISE Nepal establishes demonstration farms where farmers can see the difference between:
- Traditional fertilizer practices
- Nutrient Expert–based fertilizer management
Farmers observe:
- Crop growth differences
- Fertilizer savings
- Yield improvements
- Soil health improvements
This practical approach helps farmers trust and adopt the technology.
